ABOUT KEY CLUB

Key Club is the largest and oldest student-led service program in the United States! Key Club is international and part of Kiwanis International which is composed of adults providing its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership skills.

Key Club was started by Albert C. Olney in California back in 1925. Key Club was originally called Key Boys and was created because the adults thought the fraterities were getting too pernicious!

How does Key Club work?

International

Key Club International encompasses all clubs within the group’s 33 organized districts.Key Club International is led byits international board, which is comprised of a president, vice president and 11 trustees, allstudents and active Key Club members.

District

A district is sometimes defined by state or nation and tends to match a similar Kiwanis district. Our district is the Pacific Northwest District which spans from Western Canada to Northern California: with Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and the pan-handle of Idaho in between.

Division

Each district is divided into territories called divisions, made up of various clubs. Each division has a lieutenant governor, a student leader who carries out the district’s policies and provides support for the clubs. We represent Division 21 which includes Edmonds-Woodway, Glacier Peak, Mariner, Kamiak, Lynnwood, Terrace, and many other schools! Our division mascot is the Bumblebee. Our lieutenant governer for 2014-2015 is Selina Nguyen.

Club

Key Clubs are established in a high school or equivalent institution, or a community-based club may be chartered. Elected officers can include president, one or more vice presidents, secretary, treasurer, editor and one adult advisor. Our advisor is our own school  librarian, Ms. Borchert!
